Liberty clinic with Callie King and Kaitlyn McGarvey
Saturday, January 20, 9am – 5pm
Workshop is Full
During this clinic, learn the principles of working with a horse from the ground, with no halter, lead, or lunge line.
This clinic is open to all – you don’t need to bring your own horse, and you don’t even need to be a rider to participate.
We will teach you the skills you need whether you want to improve the relationship with your horse, create a liberty performance, or simply feel safe and confident when bringing a horse in from the field.
The best part is the principles you learn during this clinic do transfer directly to riding.
Here are a few topics we will cover:

The best part is the principles you learn during this clinic do transfer directly to riding.
Here are a few topics we will cover:
- How to use body posture and body “energy” to communicate with the horse
- Increasing your horse’s focus and attention to you
- Reading the horse’s emotional and physical state
- Learning how to respond when you feel ignored or even threatened by a horse
- How to use pressure without any physical contact
- Catching a difficult horse plus working around other horses in the field
- How your own emotions affect the horse
About Your Instructors
Callie KingDuring this clinic, Callie will cover how to apply the principles learned through liberty work to practical situations, such as catching a horse in the field, or applying pressure under saddle.
Callie specializes in taking a science based approach to both teaching and training. She strives to create a positive learning environment for students and horses, always looking for ways to make learning fun, and incorporate the newest information and research on psychology, behavior, and learning into her teaching and training. |
Kaitlyn McGarveyKaitlyn has been working with horses since she was seven years old. She has ridden in a variety of disciplines and held internships and management positions at competitive eventing and dressage barns.
During this clinic, Kaitlyn will share her experiences using liberty work in different situations, from training young horses to preparing horses for liberty performances. |
With both Kaitlyn and Callie leading this clinic, you get the benefit of two perspectives – Kaitlyn’s intuitive skill and feel for working with a horse and Callie’s ability to explain what happens in terms of behavior and learning.
